Without giving in too many spoilers, I can safely say that THIS one is by far the best of the three that came out. It's edge of the seat all the way with more than the ususal dose of super-villains. The movie is kinda complicated, so I'll start with the central characters/themes.
The movie starts with Peter Parker and M.J's romance not going so well. That's one of the central plots of this movie. Peter Parker is so engrossed in being 'Spider-Man' that it would seem that he is ignoring M.J's priorities in life.
Harry Osborn knows that Peter is spiderman and also that spiderman had killed his father. And that doesn't really bode well for spidey. Harry continues his father's work and transforms himself into the most kick-assiest Goblin ever.
Flint Marko is the guy who had killed Peter's uncle (yeah, I know what you're thinking.. but that WASN'T the guy.. this one is). And he escapes from prison. He stumbles into a Particle Physics experiment and is transformed into the Sandman. The Sandman character by the way is what shot up the cost of making this movie from 200 to 300 Million dollars. And trust me, the Sandman is definitely worth that Much. Perfectly executed.
Now Venom.. Venom is the strange gooey thing from another world. It bonds with a host and gives them power. But at the same time it brings out their evil streak. That's why Spidey is Black in this movie for quite some time. He's infected by Venom. But that is also when Spidey is most fun. You have to watch it to see how.
Eddie Brock is the new guy at the Bugle. He's a photographer that is out to get Peter Parker's job. Peter Parker undre Venom's influence, exposes him as a Fraud and the dude is fired from the Bugle. He bonds with Venom and is the other super-villain in the movie.
Well.. now that I've covered most of the premises in the movie. The movie itself is the interactions and situations of all these guys leading down to the final showdown.
You can not go wrong with this movie.. go watch it
